Robert Frank shot this black and white photograph, *Guggenheim 504/Lines of My Hand 3--Fashion show, Los Angeles,* sometime in the mid to late twentieth century. I'm really interested in how Frank's sequencing and arrangement of these frames creates its own kind of rhythm and narrative. Imagine him, hands deep in the darkroom chemicals, editing and piecing together fragments of reality. It's like a visual diary, isn't it? This strip makes me think about other artists like Gerhard Richter, or even filmmakers like Agnes Varda, who are interested in the poetics of the everyday. What's so great about this photograph is how Frank captures this fashion show – a staged and glamorous event – but also these quiet, intimate moments, creating something that feels raw and deeply personal. And that's exactly the kind of contrast that gets me going! It speaks to the ways artists explore the human condition and our collective experiences.
