Kazimir Malevich made "Vanity Box" with oil on canvas, and looking at these layered shapes, I can almost feel him layering the paint. It’s interesting to imagine the way the artist plays with basic forms like the square and cone. I can almost imagine Malevich juggling these forms, trying to find the perfect combination, and then, bam, there it is. The forms remind me of Picasso, like he’s deconstructing the idea of a vanity box, examining its essence, and in doing so, creating a new visual language. The cream swirl detail is really interesting as it brings a sense of playfulness to the composition. It is a bit like graffiti. Painting is like a conversation, and with this work, Malevich invites us to join in, to see the world through his eyes. It is the kind of visual exchange between artists that keeps art alive and evolving.
