Curator: Looking at Brabazon’s watercolor, "S. Giorgio and the Salute," I feel a strange sense of peace amidst such atmospheric drama. Editor: It’s moody. The color palette is quite limited and the support seems like paper, so it had to be quick, an impression. Curator: Precisely! Brabazon was all about capturing the fleeting moment, and the watercolor medium really lends itself to that. It's like he's trying to catch Venice breathing. Editor: I wonder if this was preparatory? Notice the materiality, the thinness of the pigment, and the lack of finish; he may have been trying to capture the mood, or the light. Curator: Maybe, but I think for Brabazon, the sketch *was* the finished piece. Editor: Either way, the light and atmosphere work really well. Curator: Absolutely. A little sketch, but with such a huge heart.
