Florin Ciulache’s painting presents us with a fragmented tableau of what appears to be a news broadcast about the ‘Economy’. Dominating the canvas are these curious, blue, goblet-like shapes reminiscent of ancient vessels, symbols of plenty and prosperity, set against a patchwork of yellow, pink, and blue hues. The image is reminiscent of chalices depicted throughout history in religious iconography, such as the Holy Grail. The forms hint at the sacredness once associated with wealth and abundance, now juxtaposed with the modern context of Euronews and time stamps from global financial centers. This echoes earlier uses of symbols and evolves into something new. It speaks to the cyclical nature of human concerns and the eternal quest for stability, perhaps mirroring our collective anxieties and subconscious desires.
