Horace Pippin made this painting, *Family Supper*, using simple colors and shapes to tell a story. It’s like he's building the scene one brushstroke at a time, kinda like laying bricks. I am struck by how the black outlines define everything, from the wooden walls to the figures gathered around the table. Look closely, and you'll see how the paint isn't trying to hide itself. It's right there on the surface, thick and bold, especially in those dark lines. The table seems to be at the center of it all. The way Pippin used the colour here, it feels like it’s holding everyone together. Pippin's work reminds me a little of Henri Rousseau; they both have this direct, unaffected way of painting the world as they see it. And like all good art, it leaves you with questions more than answers. What are they eating? What did they do today? It's all up to you.
