This shallow, wide-rimmed bowl was made with glass by Stuart Glass Limited. The process of glassblowing has always interested me, just this idea of working with molten material and coaxing it into a specific shape. I’m drawn to the way the green spirals are embedded in the clear glass, creating these almost otherworldly forms. The color is transparent, yet it has a density that makes it feel substantial. Each mark seems deliberate, yet there’s also a sense of fluidity and spontaneity to the overall design. Looking at the bottom, where the green extends into the base, it’s almost as if the piece is growing from within. This idea of something emerging, taking shape, and becoming something new is what art is about, right? It reminds me a bit of the work of Dale Chihuly, particularly his organic, bulbous forms. There’s something about this piece that speaks to the endless possibilities of art, that embraces the beauty of imperfection.
