Robert Frank's "Wales 7" is a contact sheet – a series of small, raw images, like a painter's colour tests, or a writer's stream-of-consciousness notes. Frank lays out an unedited record of the photographic process. Look closely, and you'll see the marks of his hand: the bold red "7" scrawled across the images, the grease pencil edits, these marks transform what could be just a mechanical document into something deeply personal. There’s a real texture here, a layering of intent and accident. The black and white tonality lends a stark contrast, a visual punch that emphasizes the grit and grain of the film. It reminds me of the work of Garry Winogrand – that same restless energy, that feeling of capturing life as it unfolds, unvarnished and imperfect. Ultimately, "Wales 7" isn't just a collection of images; it's a meditation on seeing, on the choices we make as artists, and on the messy, beautiful process of creation itself.
