Here we see ‘Egg Board’ by Jean Arp. We don’t have a date for this work, but Arp was an artist whose life spanned both world wars. The arrangement of shapes and colors encourages us to think about form and its possibilities. Arp was influenced by the Dada movement which sought to challenge academic art traditions by embracing chance and irrationality. There is a deliberate move away from established artistic conventions in ‘Egg Board’. Arp cultivated a practice of artistic collaboration with his wife Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Their collaborations were based on shared values of equality and a rejection of traditional gender roles. In ‘Egg Board’, the shapes and colors create a landscape that invites us to think about the tensions that occur in relationships. The work offers a narrative of growth, change, and chance encounter. 'Egg Board' becomes a field for exploring new ways of seeing and experiencing the world around us, while suggesting new and evolving patterns of relating to others.
