Alfred Freddy Krupa made “Two boats on Korana” with ink on paper, and what strikes me is how immediate the marks are. You get the feeling Krupa wasn’t thinking too hard, but really feeling the brush in his hand. There’s a confidence in these black strokes against the white ground. Look at the way the ink bleeds slightly into the paper, creating these soft edges that contrast with the sharp, defined lines. You can almost see the speed and pressure he applied, the brush dancing across the surface. It reminds me a bit of Cy Twombly, but with a quieter, more meditative quality. The way the boats are suggested, not fully described, leaves room for your imagination to wander. It’s like a memory, fleeting and incomplete. Art like this shows us that sometimes, what's left unsaid speaks the loudest.
