Kazimir Malevich made this small drawing, Pilot, at some point in his career, probably using graphite or charcoal on paper. Look at the angular shapes and the way he builds tone through hatching; it's all about process, isn't it? You can almost feel him searching for the right form with each stroke. The piece is a tight composition of geometric forms and textual fragments that create a sense of dynamic movement. I'm drawn to the lower section, where the dark, densely shaded shapes contrast with the lighter areas, giving the drawing a tactile quality. The smudged graphite adds to this, suggesting the work is not just seen but felt, like the memory of a dream. It makes me think of Kurt Schwitters and his Merz collages, both artists exploring how fragments can create new realities. What do you make of it?
