This linen damask napkin with hawthorns was woven by Chris Lebeau. Can you imagine the process, the loom clacking away, the pattern slowly emerging like a photograph in a darkroom? The repeating motifs remind me of a minimal painting, Agnes Martin maybe, with its subtle variations in tone and texture. What thoughts would have been going through Lebeau's mind as he created this piece? Was he thinking about nature, about design, about the everyday beauty of a well-made object? It is about finding beauty in the ordinary, isn’t it? These patterns remind me of conversations across time. Lebeau speaks to the weavers of the past, to the painters of the future. And here we are, listening in, adding our own voices to the mix. It's a good reminder that we are all connected. Art is not just about individual expression, but also about community and exchange. And the beauty of it all.
