This linen damask cloth with ivy design was made by Chris Lebeau, but it’s not dated. The eye travels gently across the surface, meandering through patterns that somehow feel both organic and geometric. It’s so subtle, the way the weave catches the light. You can almost feel the artist’s hand in the design process, a patient, iterative layering of textures and shapes. Each little snowflake is perfectly formed but also slightly imperfect and this speaks to the human touch in a world of machine production. There's a sense of intimacy and familiarity to this artwork, like something you might find tucked away in a drawer or displayed in a china cabinet. It reminds me a little of the work of Anni Albers, who explored the possibilities of weaving as a form of artistic expression.
