These four photographs of Norbert van den Berg in the garden of Villa Floris show the artist in different poses and angles. Each one is a little window into the life of an artist. You know, I find myself wondering what it was like for him to be there in that garden in 1949 and 1950. What was he thinking? What did he feel? The photo of Norbert painting outside, for instance, makes me reflect on the relationship between the body, the eye, and the artwork. You can see Norbert van den Berg in the act of creation – what a joy! I always think about how paintings can be more about the process than the result. Each gesture, each decision, carries intention and meaning. Artists are always conversing with one another through time, inspiring creativity, and helping us see the world differently.
