This cream jug was produced by the Worcester Porcelain Works, starting in 1751. The jug embodies a delicate balance between utility and ornamental expression. The eye is immediately drawn to the interplay between the pristine white surface and the cobalt blue embellishments. Consider the structured yet fluid composition. The body of the jug features a subtle, raised pattern which gives a tactile dimension to the visual experience. This textured field is punctuated by bands of vivid blue—one encircling the base and another gracing the rim. These bands incorporate stylized floral motifs, their placement strategically emphasizing the jug’s form. The handle, a graceful arc of porcelain, presents an interesting study in line and form. Its curvature echoes the jug’s overall shape. The color scheme and decorative elements, while seemingly traditional, subtly challenge the prevailing aesthetics of their time by integrating understated elegance with practical design.
