Olafur Eliasson’s light installation, Colour space embracer, uses light and shadow to create an immersive colour experience. It feels elemental, like staring at a prism. I can only imagine what it was like to set up. The piece is so technical, so precise, you have to get the angle just right for the magic to happen. Eliasson is a showman and his artworks are really experiences that seem to transcend material. He plays with light in a way that's almost dematerialized, which is also what painting can do. The piece feels like a cousin of the Light and Space movement, and the LA artists who tried to make art that was purely perceptual. And that's the thing about art, isn't it? It keeps shifting, changing form, but the conversation continues. From a cave painting to digital art, artists are in constant dialogue. They inspire one another’s creativity, opening up space for multiple interpretations and meanings, creating a constant and embodied expression of what it means to be human.
