Mathieu Lauweriks made these jewelry designs with pencil on paper. These little drawings, they're not just about how the jewelry might look, but also about the thinking that goes into making something. Look at the way the lines are laid down; they're searching, tentative. It's like Lauweriks is feeling his way through the design, letting the process guide him. The graphite has a soft, almost velvety texture, and the way he's layered the lines gives the designs a sense of depth. Notice the looped head of the left hand piece; it’s not just a static shape, it feels like it’s about to unfurl, or maybe it just did. That kind of movement, that feeling of potential, it's what makes these designs so alive. The pared-down aesthetic and linear quality of Lauweriks’ work makes me think of Hilma af Klint. Like her, he seems to be reaching for something beyond the surface, a deeper understanding of form and structure.
