Koshiro Onchi made this print, Herinneringen aan Tokyo, with what looks like a soft, muted palette. It’s like he's sharing a faded snapshot, a half-remembered dream of the city. I love how the color is almost not there, barely kissing the paper. The texture feels smooth, maybe even a little bit worn. It’s like the paper itself has absorbed the memories, holding them close. Look at the simple shapes he uses to suggest buildings and landscapes – it’s all suggestion, no hard edges. The little dome shape feels lonely, adrift in a sea of gray. There’s a sense of melancholy hanging over the image, a feeling of time passing and things fading. It’s a quality I also see in Agnes Martin’s work, that careful balance between presence and absence. You could stare at it for hours, just letting the quietness wash over you. It's a beautiful, subtle conversation about art, memory, and how we see the world.
