Stanley William Hayter made this print, Parachute, using engraving, etching, and soft ground techniques. It's a trip! I love how he lets the process be visible; it’s like watching the art come into being. Look at the way the blues and greens vibrate against each other, Hayter isn’t hiding anything. You can see the marks of the tools, the layering of the colors, all there on the surface. The linear forms float and overlap. The bright yellow feels dangerous. See that cluster of lines near the top, like a scribble caught in mid-air? It’s like a little explosion of energy, trapped in the frame. It’s controlled chaos, and I think it embodies the spirit of Hayter’s work. He reminds me a bit of Picasso, always pushing the boundaries. With Hayter, it's not just about what you see, but how you see it.
