Stanley William Hayter made this print, Night and Day, using engraving and etching. I can imagine him working on the plate, incising lines, testing proofs, wiping away ink, and printing. It’s a dance, this printmaking thing, isn’t it? I’m looking at the lines, how they cross and intersect. There is a mix of colours here, oranges, greens, and purples. It's kinda trippy, and the lines are creating some tension, or maybe energy, like charged particles zipping around. Hayter was into Surrealism, and you can see it in the way he's playing with abstraction. It reminds me a little of Picasso, with the way he's distorting and reassembling forms. Hayter’s work was all about experimenting and pushing boundaries, like me with my paintings. We're all just trying to figure things out, talking to each other across time. It's all about exploring, right? And not being afraid to mess things up a little, because that's where the good stuff happens.
