"Mass Consumption," by Rodrigo Franzao, I'm guessing was made recently, given the artist’s birthdate. It’s made of a collection of small material units, like a mosaic or a tiny, obsessive cityscape, and it's fascinating how a simple shape can hold so much potential for variation. Up close, you notice each unit has a slightly different shape and color. The texture is amazing – you can almost feel the slight give of the material between your fingers. I can imagine Franzao painstakingly placing each one, making decisions based on color, shape, and position. The yellow rectangle in the middle is key. It gives the eye a place to rest amidst the organized chaos of the rest of the work, highlighting the physicality of the individual shapes. This reminds me a bit of Yayoi Kusama's repetition, but with a more playful, less psychologically charged feel. Ultimately, it's about the beauty found in accumulation, inviting us to consider how individual elements come together to create something bigger and more complex.
