This is "Très Parisien, 1925, No. 1, Pl. 14-TYROL" by G-P. Joumard from 1925, made as a print. There’s a really interesting contrast between the flat blocks of colour and these tiny little details. It's a reminder that artmaking is often a process of moving back and forth between the broad strokes and the minute refinements. Look at the way the patterns create a sense of texture and depth. It’s not quite realistic, but it gives you enough information to imagine the feel of the fabric. Check out the figure on the right, whose coat is covered in tiny squares, each one a different shade of brown, red, and green. It’s almost like a mosaic. It’s a playful, almost chaotic, pattern, but somehow it works. It’s controlled chaos. This piece reminds me a little of Sonia Delaunay’s textile designs, that same bold use of colour and geometric shapes. You can see how artists borrow and build on each other’s ideas, creating this amazing conversation across time. Ultimately, art is about possibilities, about embracing the unknown and finding beauty in unexpected places.
