This roll of cream silk satin ribbon was produced by Gustav Schnitzler and is now held at the Rijksmuseum. The ribbon's rolled form feels like an exercise in the round. I’m interested in how we see form in different ways, and how the repetition of line can create new dimensions. Here, the tight coil of the ribbon offers a study in texture and light. The cream silk catches the light, its sheen almost blurring the edges of each revolution, yet it is punctuated by the subtle stitching along the borders. The stamp on the paper, ‘12 metres’ suggests both a practical measurement and an infinite potential; a length ready to be unfurled and shaped. The layers of material draw me in, like looking into a well. The rolled ribbon reminds me of the sculptural works of Eva Hesse, particularly in its simplicity and the way it embodies endless possibility within a defined form. Art exists in a perpetual dialogue across time and mediums. It’s the conversation that keeps evolving.
