Ober Gabelhorn and Wellenkuppe, Pennine Alps
Listen to curator's interpretation
Curatorial notes
Editor: Here we have A.G. Wehrli’s photograph "Ober Gabelhorn and Wellenkuppe, Pennine Alps." The crisp details and stark contrast create an imposing scene. What strikes you about this image? Curator: The presence of the building in the rugged landscape is quite interesting. It speaks to a human desire to tame or engage with the sublime, but also highlights the complicated relationship between humans and the natural world. How do we interpret this intervention? Editor: That's a good point. It seems almost defiant against the vastness of the mountains. I hadn't considered the socio-political implications of landscape photography. Curator: Exactly! And that little house becomes a symbol, doesn't it? Perhaps of ambition, or even hubris. Editor: I see it now! Considering that opens a new avenue of understanding. Thanks!
