Lærerinde og elev 1885

Axel Helsted painted “Lærerinde og elev” using oil on canvas, sometime around the turn of the twentieth century. The title translates as “Teacher and Student,” which is what we see: a young girl facing her teacher in what appears to be a private lesson. The painting offers a glimpse into the social world of Danish education in the late 19th century.
