Stephen Antonakos made this drawing, Inside Corner Two Triangles: Neon, using crayon on paper. The whole surface is softly brushed and smudged, in this pale pink colour. Then, there are these decisive lines, drawn in a bright, waxy crayon. You can almost feel the pressure he applied as he dragged the crayon across the paper. I'm imagining him thinking through the drawing, trying different angles, searching for the right spatial arrangement. The bright, straight lines feel so confident, so sure of themselves, but then the surrounding smudges of pink suggest a kind of hesitancy, or maybe just the residue of the drawing process itself. It’s almost as if the artist is holding a conversation with himself through marks and gestures. I am reminded of the work of Sol LeWitt who was similarly interested in the intersections of drawing and architecture. Ultimately, this drawing embodies the generative potential of art-making. It's an exploration of space, form, and color, but also an investigation into the act of drawing itself.
