Erik Pauelsen created this wash drawing of Anne Colbjørnsen in Norderhaug præstegaard. Painted during a period of Danish-Norwegian tension, the work offers a glimpse into the life and courage of a woman who became a symbol of resistance. Colbjørnsen, a parson's daughter, is depicted here during the Great Northern War. She is shown outwitting Swedish soldiers, reportedly serving them alcohol while gathering information about their plans. The image complicates traditional gender roles. Colbjørnsen's actions challenged the expectations of women in her time, who were largely confined to domestic roles. Her bravery and intelligence in the face of military occupation speak to a form of quiet rebellion and resilience. The drawing invites us to reflect on the intersection of gender, power, and resistance in times of conflict. The emotional depth of Pauelsen’s work lies in its depiction of defiance amidst adversity. Colbjørnsen’s story reminds us of the extraordinary acts of ordinary people, and of the courage it takes to stand against oppression.
