This is a handwritten letter to Philip Zilcken by Adrienne Dhayrmond, seemingly written with blue ink on a piece of paper. You know, handwriting is a kind of drawing, a direct expression, like a signature. It's so intimate. I imagine Dhayrmond, pen in hand, carefully forming each word, each loop and stroke. What thoughts were flowing through her mind as she wrote, sharing news and impressions with Zilcken? It reminds me of Cy Twombly and his scrawls, how his line is both writing and image, blurring the boundaries. Each flourish in Dhayrmond's letter, carries her intention. It’s a record of a moment, a thought made visible. Writing to Zilcken connects her to a community of artists. Painting, like writing, is about making marks and having conversations across time, inspiring and echoing one another. There's something beautiful in this simple act of communication, a reminder of the power of human connection through art.
