Editor: So, this is an untitled print from 1976 by Joe Tilson, a series of three images, stone, stars, and what looks like a charred pair of scissors. It feels… elemental, almost alchemical, with its juxtapositions. What do you make of it? Curator: Elemental is a good word. It reminds me of a dream, those strange leaps our minds make. Avebury's stone, Sirius's distant light, and then, the raw power of fire, or its aftermath. It's like Tilson is asking, what connects these disparate things? Or perhaps, what *doesn't*? Editor: The scissors do seem out of place. Curator: Or are they? Aren't scissors tools to cut, divide, shape, like fire perhaps? Maybe Tilson's inviting us to cut through the surface, to find hidden connections between the cosmos and the everyday. Food for thought. Editor: I didn't think of it that way, it is a lot to digest. Curator: Art is like that, isn’t it? Always a new angle waiting to be found.
