This 'Trim', by the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict, features precise geometric patterns and rich, earthy tones. It’s giving me art deco vibes, which just goes to show how forms and colors can repeat and re-emerge through time. The gold zigzags against the burgundy create a subtle shimmer, like sunlight through stained glass. The colors and shapes are bold, but there’s also an incredible sense of order and calm. I think that comes from the repetition, the way each motif echoes the last. I’m really drawn to the circles with the crosses inside, the way the spears of light seem to burst outwards. It reminds me a little of Hilma af Klint’s geometric paintings. Both artists use shape and color to convey a sense of spiritual experience, but here it’s through this really grounded, material process. It makes you wonder about the conversations the sisters had while creating this piece. Maybe it's like Agnes Martin's work, a quest for serenity through repetition and simplicity. It's a testament to the idea that art is always a conversation.
