Just in passing 1993

Curator: Absolutely, and notice the freedom suggested by the birds. They’re almost brushstrokes themselves, echoing the gesture of creation. It makes you wonder, doesn't it? Is this moment one of joy, sorrow, reflection or perhaps acceptance. A silent transition of one thing dissolving into the other Editor: It definitely makes you wonder! Is that maybe the photographer's own figure or silhouette? What’s the scale – does that enhance your read of it at all? Curator: A landscape format, if it were more panoramic, might have diluted the intensity and the isolation of the individual figure, don’t you think? The vertical composition seems to amplify the contrast between our solitary being and this kind of dynamic release. Almost feels…personal? What do you feel when you stand face-to-face with the picture? Editor: Definitely. Seeing how the artist focused on just capturing one figure versus trying to draw it at different angles adds to that sentiment of a melancholy-inspired piece.
