Jimmy Ernst's "Equations" is like looking through a fractured window, painted with meticulous care. Imagine him, maybe with a really fine brush, teasing out those intricate lines, building up layer upon layer. The black lines form an almost architectural structure, right? Then you've got these floating planes of color, like light filtering through stained glass. He's juggling order and chaos, control and letting go. I can imagine him stepping back, squinting, making tiny adjustments, a real back-and-forth between intention and accident. It feels a little like what his Dad, Max Ernst, was up to with Surrealism, but Jimmy’s making something really precise and personal. For me it points to the idea that painting isn't just about what you see, it's about how you see, how you make sense of the world. And maybe, just maybe, how you find some kind of beauty in the equations of life.
