Editor: This is Edwina Leapman's *Untitled Deep Blue*, a very large canvas. It gives the impression of quietness and I am intrigued by the horizontal brushstrokes. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I observe the painting’s meticulous construction, the layering of pigment creating subtle tonal variations across the surface. Note how the horizontal lines, rather than creating a sense of landscape, emphasize the painting's flatness and materiality. The blue, itself, appears almost tactile. Editor: Tactile indeed! I hadn't considered that. Curator: The work invites consideration of the interplay between color and form, a hallmark of formalist inquiry. Editor: I appreciate your perspective on the painting's flatness, which encourages us to focus on materiality. Curator: And I am glad that you are developing your eye for the intrinsic qualities of art.
