This study sheet of buildings was sketched by Adrianus Eversen. It depicts architectural forms that symbolize much more than mere structures. Observe how the buildings' towers reach upward. This motif, found in various eras and places, echoes the Tower of Babel’s ambition, humanity’s yearning to connect with the heavens. In gothic cathedrals, spires invoke religious ecstasy, piercing the sky to transcend earthly limitations. Here, however, in these modest buildings, we find a more subdued, domestic interpretation of ascent. Such towers aren't just architectural features; they embody human aspirations and the collective desire to transcend earthly existence, recurring throughout history in various guises. Each manifestation, whether grand or humble, reflects our deep-seated longing for something beyond.
