Sam Francis made #2 Pri-Rain on paper, with what looks like watercolour or very fluid acrylic. I love how he lets the colours mingle and make a mess. It’s like he’s inviting the paint to do its own dance. The texture is smooth, the paper seems almost untouched in places, letting the bright colours pop even more. Look at the red marks slashing across the canvas, a really intense, gestural splash. It feels like a quick, spontaneous moment, like he’s trying to capture a feeling rather than a picture of something. There’s a real joy in the way Francis lets the paint drip and splatter. It reminds me a little of Joan Miró's playful approach to colour and form, both inviting us to see the world with fresh eyes. Art is just a conversation that never ends. And that's what makes it so endlessly fascinating.
