This postcard to Ab Bogtman was made by Richard Nicolaüs Roland Holst, although I can't tell you when, or even with what, but I can tell you that it is full of poetry and feeling. I love how the cursive script sprawls across the surface, almost like a drawing in itself. You can feel the movement of his hand, the pressure on the pen, the urgency of the message. It reminds me that art is never just about the final product but about the process of making, the choices, and the gestures along the way. The smudged ink, the crossed-out words, it all tells a story. It's like he’s having a conversation with the recipient, maybe working through an idea, or just riffing. And that stamp in the corner, with Queen Wilhelmina, adds a touch of history and formality, anchoring the piece in a specific time and place. It reminds me of Cy Twombly's scribbled paintings, where the act of writing becomes a form of abstract expression. Holst invites us to slow down and really look, to appreciate the beauty of imperfection and the power of handwritten communication.
