Editor: This is León Ferrari’s "Nuncio Pío Larghi Greets Massera, Videla and Agosti on 9/7/77 (Photo: Public Records Office) + El Nuncio Torregrossa greets Hitler". It's a deeply unsettling work, a juxtaposition of two photographs. What strikes you about the symbolism at play here? Curator: The layering is key. Consider the iconographic weight of the Nazi imagery versus the Argentine Junta. Ferrari forces us to confront the continuity of authoritarianism. What shared visual language do you see between these regimes? Editor: The presence of the Church officials in both images is particularly disturbing. It suggests a certain… complicity. Curator: Precisely. The handshake, a symbol of agreement and peace, becomes a potent signifier of something far more sinister. The image, therefore, acts as a cultural memory. How might this resonate with audiences today? Editor: I see it now. The enduring power of symbols to reveal uncomfortable truths. Thanks for pointing that out.
