Carel Adolph Lion Cachet made these chair designs at some point in his career, probably just using a pencil on paper. It's so immediate, right? You can almost feel him thinking through the possibilities. The delicate lines, so light and airy, they remind me that art isn't always about the final product. It's about the process, the exploration. I love how you can see the ghost of previous lines, the artist working through different ideas. Look at the variations in the back supports - some are simple triangles, others more ornate. Each mark tells a story of consideration, of function meeting design. It’s not just about how the chair will look, but how it will hold someone, how it will feel to sit. I'm reminded of Van Gogh’s sketches, or even some of David Hockney’s working drawings – there’s a similar intimacy. It’s like we’re invited into Cachet’s studio, watching him at work. Art’s an ongoing conversation, isn't it? A way of seeing and thinking that keeps evolving. There's no right or wrong way to read this, just layers of possibilities.
