Paul Klee made this etching, Die Hexe mit dem Kamm, The Witch with a Comb, with a sharp eye for the absurd. I love how Klee's lines wobble and dance, they're not trying to be perfect. Check out the way he uses hatching to give her dress some volume, like he's almost sculpting with ink. And those arrows pointing down? Are they weighing her down, or are they pointing the way forward? It's like Klee is reminding us that art is a process of exploration, not just a finished product. This piece feels like a cousin to some of Picasso’s more playful line drawings. Both artists had a way of finding humor and depth in the simplest of forms, and understood art as a conversation. Ultimately, Klee reminds us that ambiguity is a strength. We’re left with questions, not answers.
