Editor: This is Alfio Giuffrida’s "Natura Exp22," made in 2018 with acrylic paint. It feels quite playful, almost like an exploded diagram with these familiar everyday objects and organic shapes balanced within the frame. What do you make of this unconventional still life? Curator: It’s intriguing how Giuffrida arranges these objects. Consider the orange hues, recalling autumnal landscapes perhaps, yet rendered in flat, geometric forms. Do you sense a tension between the natural world evoked by the title, and the highly artificial composition? Editor: I do see that now! The title "Natura" suggests nature, but it's presented through these very geometric and almost cartoonish objects. It's like a deconstructed view of nature. Curator: Exactly. Think about how objects gain symbolic weight through repetition in art. These recurring geometric shapes—circles, rectangles—and familiar, everyday objects become like characters in a visual language. What story might they be telling us about our relationship with nature in the modern world? Editor: Perhaps how we try to organize and control it, reducing it to manageable shapes and forms? Curator: That’s a perceptive interpretation. The artist seems to question our perception and interaction with our environment by repurposing shared cultural memories that attach themselves to visual symbols. What is also particularly interesting is how this abstract "natura" could easily be a technological blueprint. Editor: I never thought of that. That contrast really gives me a new perspective on what’s being presented. Curator: Seeing those connections enriches our understanding, doesn't it? Editor: Absolutely! It shows how symbolism helps bridge different cultural and temporal contexts. Thanks so much!
