David Annesley made this print called 'Red, Yellow, Blue and Turquoise' and it feels like he made it with a playful spirit. I can imagine Annesley in his studio, maybe listening to jazz, just letting these dots of color dance across the surface. The way the colors cluster and then thin out creates a sense of movement, almost like confetti caught in a breeze. It reminds me of some of Joan Miró's work. The simplicity of the shapes is deceiving because each dot is placed with intention. Did he have to think about how it all balanced? It’s so spare and light. I really love the physical act of painting, and I love seeing the evidence of the hand in art. I can imagine him thinking about the relationships between colors. Like two painters chatting about process and what it means to make an image in the world, Annesley and Miró continue to give one another new ideas.
