Walter Miller Askin created this print, entitled Garden of Delights, during a period of great social change in the United States. Askin's work reflects his personal engagement with the Civil Rights Movement and the counterculture of the 1960s. His art often challenged conventional values and explored themes of social justice, identity, and individual freedom. In Garden of Delights, we see an environment of lush, dream-like imagery. But there is also an underlying sense of tension, as if this Eden has been disrupted by a force of inequity. Askin challenges the notion of a 'garden of delights' as a space of pure joy, suggesting it may also be a site of struggle, negotiation, and, perhaps, even resistance. What do you think?
