Leo Gestel made this study of eight horses sometime during his lifetime with pencil on paper. I can imagine Gestel capturing these horses in a few strokes of the pencil, line by line, shape by shape. Each horse has its own energy and rhythm, they seem to frolic and play on the page! They're like dancers in a field, a ballet of graceful forms, each leg a line, each body a shape, each horse a character.
