Curator: The placement of the flower is very intentional. Initials, especially in illuminated manuscripts and early printed books, are often seen as gateways. The flower emerging from the 'U' becomes a symbol of potential, of something beautiful blossoming from the very foundation of language and knowledge. What does the flower evoke for you? Editor: I guess I see it as symbolic of growth, like ideas taking root and flourishing. The U is so bold but the flower offers softness. Thanks! Curator: Yes, and the flower can be an emblem of ephemerality and beauty, reminding us that even the most solid structures can give rise to transient moments of grace. So much meaning imbued within something so small.
