Mathias Goeritz made this sculpture, La Serpiente, and it's interesting how he's approached monumentality, making it horizontal rather than vertical. The form sprawls and curves, feeling more like a gesture than a static object. I'm really drawn to the material presence of this sculpture. You can practically feel the weight and texture of the metal. It seems like it's been weathered and worn, and that adds another layer of depth, like it's part of the landscape itself. It reminds me of some of Richard Serra's work, where the sheer physicality of the material becomes the subject. Take a moment to consider that point where the planes intersect. There is an implied energy at that point, like the snake is winding through space. Ultimately, La Serpiente is a reminder that art is an ongoing dialogue. Each piece builds on what came before, pushing boundaries and challenging our perceptions. It’s all one big, beautiful, messy conversation.
