James Rosati made this untitled sculpture out of painted aluminum. It's a real head-scratcher, isn't it? A bunch of cubes, all akimbo, like someone threw a handful of dice and they landed in this strangely elegant mess. I love how the flatness of the white paint kind of flattens the whole thing out, making it almost look like a drawing in space, a playful diagram. But then you walk around it, and the shadows shift, and suddenly it’s a solid, weighty object again. It reminds me of some of the spatial experiments of artists like Sol LeWitt, where simple geometric forms become these endlessly complex, almost impossible structures. There is this one edge where two planes meet that feels knife-sharp, so crisp it’s like a dare. It’s all about perception, this piece. It makes you question what you think you see, and isn't that what art is all about?
