Nancy Graves made "Agualine" with paint, creating a vibrant conversation of colour and mark-making on the canvas. Imagine her, brush in hand, coaxing these forms into existence. I can see these looping lines, floating and dancing in a colourful world. The blues and oranges feel so energetic and alive, like water reflecting the sky. I can feel the artist's hand in every stroke; each gesture a response to the one before. It’s kind of like improvisational dance. Graves is doing something that reminds me of Joan Mitchell, or maybe even Twombly—pushing the boundaries of what painting can be. This piece feels like an experiment, a playful exploration of colour, line, and form. And that, for me, is where the magic happens. It’s not about perfection, but about the process of discovery.
