Sam Francis made "And Pink" with paint and a surface, at an unknown date. I can imagine him poised over the canvas, maybe on the floor, letting loose with these amazing splashes and drips. It's all about the doing, you know? The way he lets the paint run, kind of like Helen Frankenthaler, but messier, wilder. I bet he was really in the zone, not thinking too much, just feeling the colors and the movement. Those splatters and drips, they're like little explosions of energy. There's so much life in it. I keep thinking of the way he layers the colors, like the reds over the yellows and blues. It creates depth, but it also makes this crazy kind of harmony. It’s like a reminder that artists are always riffing off each other, borrowing ideas, and making them their own. And that’s how painting keeps evolving, you know? It's all one big conversation.
