The “Wensbrief met decoratief kader” is a print on paper created by weduwe C. Kok-van Kolm. The work features an ornamental frame enclosing an empty central space. The frame is constructed from symmetrical, curvilinear elements highlighted with gold and pink hues. The alternating placement of pictorial scenes and floral motifs creates a rhythmic visual pattern. The narrative scenes depict episodes from the life of Christ: the Last Supper, the Washing of Feet, Christ carrying the Cross, and the Crucifixion. Each scene is rendered in miniature, yet they are articulated with enough detail to convey a clear sense of drama. The frame does not merely decorate but actively orders the viewer's perception, directing our gaze along a predetermined path of visual and narrative elements. Through its structure and composition, the print invites reflection on the interplay between ornamentation, narrative, and devotional practice.
