Ann Gene Buckley painted ‘Skirt’ with watercolour on paper. It's the kind of painting that really lets you see the artist working. It's all about the joy of mark-making. That blue is so vibrant, almost singing off the paper. And look how she’s used the brush, loose and free, to create this skirt with a mind of its own! The details, like those little paisley patterns, feel both precise and dreamlike. You can almost see her hand moving, each stroke deliberate yet playful. There is a wonderful contrast between the flat blue and the soft, organic shapes. It makes me think about process, about how each brushstroke builds up the image, almost like a dance between control and letting go. This reminds me a bit of how Agnes Martin would paint, finding freedom in those repetitive marks, creating something both simple and deeply complex.
