Curatorial notes
Here we have a poster for the film 'Yakuza' by Robert Peak. You can really feel the hand of the artist in the piece, I mean, it's so painterly. The use of colour in this piece is just, mwah, *chef's kiss*. The way the background melts from shades of purple to pink, it really sets a mood, right? I love how the figures are rendered with these transparent layers, so that faces almost bleed into each other, it's like a dream... or maybe a really intense movie trailer. The way these different scenes sit on top of each other, without blending, is a real masterclass in composition, not unlike Rosenquist. The piece is full of juxtapositions, like art itself. It's an ongoing conversation, always pulling from the past and pushing towards something new.
